Common Mediation Questions

What is your current training and certification status?

I am an Associate Mediator with Mediate BC. This builds on over 20 years of experience in counselling and facilitation, providing a strong foundation as I transition into independent mediation practice.

How is mediation different from counselling?

Mediation and counselling serve different purposes. Counselling focuses on emotional support and personal growth, while mediation is a structured process focused on communication, decision making, and reaching workable agreements.

In mediation, the focus stays on the present. The goal is to support clear conversation and forward movement rather than exploring personal history or providing therapeutic support.

Do you provide legal advice during the process?

No. As a mediator, my role is to support clear communication and a structured process. I do not provide legal or financial advice.

I encourage participants to seek independent legal advice before finalizing any agreements.

How does the mediation process begin?

The process begins with an initial conversation to determine whether mediation is appropriate. From there, we can discuss next steps and how to move forward.
